Abstract

Paikallinen ruoka on kuluttajille tuttu käsite. Sitä ei kuitenkaan voi määritellä yksiselitteisesti. Pohdin puheenvuorossani, mitä paikallisella ruualla tarkoitetaan, ketkä sitä ostavat ja mikä sen merkitys on nykyisin.

Työskentelin vuosituhannen alussa Suomen Akatemian rahoittamassa tutkimushankkeessa ”Greening of the Finnish Food System”, jossa tutkin lähiruokailmiötä Suomessa. Hanke kiinnittyi elintarvikejärjestelmien tutkimukseen, jonka puitteissa oli vähitellen alettu kiinnittää huomiota myös kuluttajien rooliin ruokaketjuissa. Kysynnän uskottiin eriytyvän, kun laatua arvostavat kuluttajat eivät tyytyneet globaalisti toimivien suuryritysten tuottamaan massaruokaan. Teollisille elintarvikkeille vaihtoehtoisten luomuruoan ja paikallisen ruoan suosion uskottiin vahvistuvan monia länsimaita hätkähdyttäneiden ruokaskandaalien ja ympäristötietoisuuden nousun myötä...
