Asukkaat lähiöluonnon osallisina
Abstract
In this study, I approach participation in living environment as everyday practices and relations with the management of living environment which, I argue, are part of the enactment of the suburban nature. The work is based on walking interviews made in Hervanta, a suburb of 25 000 inhabitants in Tampere, Southern Finland. The analysis of the interviews through the perspectives of dwelling and amenity rights brings forth three ‘amenity ecologies’. These are different kinds of relationships between inhabitants, nature and urban green management. The results reveal how experiencing and learning to know nature relates to suburban everyday life, social structure of suburbia and urban green management. This kind of perspective is also useful in suburban planning.
