This article sheds light on the attitude of Finns towards the conservation of the Saimaa ringed seal and different conservation measures. Perceptions related to conservation are examined in the light of the dimensions of justice. Based on the survey data (n=1487), quantitative statistical methods reveal how the respondents are grouped based on conservation perceptions. Using qualitative analysis, the understanding of the viewpoints related to Saimaa ringed seal conservation, conservation concepts and the acceptability of different measures is deepened. Overall, the conservation measures were viewed positively. Even the least supported measure, i.e., expanding the area of fishing restrictions, was supported by 70% of the respondents. The most supported measures were the reduction of environmental toxins, the development and introduction of seal-safe fishing equipment, and the construction of auxiliary nests to support nesting in winters with little snow. The support for different conservation measures was used in cluster analysis, ending up with three different respondent groups: enthusiastic (42.3% of respondents), positive (41.3% of respondents) and moderate (16.4% of respondents).
