Abstract

This article examines the topic of biodiversity in supply chain management through a review of research literature.  Our analysis covers 30 articles published in 2004-2018 in scientific journals that publish supply chain management research. Our examination shows that biodiversity is only slowly emerging as a research topic and so far, supply chain management studies have not addressed nature-based solutions. This is a significant research gap and an area for future work; these topics need to be studied further to help companies to advance truly sustainable supply chains. Based on a content analysis of the articles, this study highlights challenges related to examining and protecting biodiversity in supply chains. Moreover, it discusses how companies can further nature-based solutions in supply chain management.
