Abstract

The images created by the media partly define what the countryside is. This review summarizes domestic studies that have dealt with rural news in journalistic media. Research is examined from the perspective of environmental justice. Research on rural news has focused especially on newspapers. The frames of decline, development and controversy are central ways of talking about the countryside. In recent decades, there has been a transition in news reporting from a narrative that naturalizes and justifies the utilization of natural resources and ecosystems to a narrative that emphasizes the goals and implementation of environmental policy. The topic of guilt offers a fruitful topic for further research.
